JOB DESCRIPTION
New Oakland Family Centers provides comprehensive behavioral health and substance abuse services for consumers across Michigan, in both outpatient and partial hospitalization settings.
Location: Pontiac
Schedule: Full time; Shift-based schedule as determined by Crisis Services Director. Three, 12-hour shifts each week, as determined by Crisis Director. Available shifts include 7PM - 7:30AM *Please note that initial new hire training will be conducted during daytime hours at the assigned training location, consisting of five 8.5-hour shifts from Monday to Friday. Completion of this training is required before beginning non-traditional shifts.
Reports To: Director of Nursing / Site Director / Site Supervisors / Regional Nursing Supervisors
Compensation: Hourly Employee; $18-$20/hour. Commensurate with experience.
Position Summary: The Medical Assistant/Receptionist is a full-time or part-time position comprised of multiple clinical and administrative duties to ensure a welcoming and efficient environment is maintained in the Youth and Family Care Connection (YFCC). They will work to provide optimal customer service to consumers and other stakeholders. This position requires work in a children’s short-term crisis stabilization unit that operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. They will work closely with clinical and administrative staff and consumers of all populations, specifically with children, to ensure efficient safe and effective care.

Essential Duties / Functions:
- Welcomes consumers and visitors to the unit by greeting consumers and visitors in person and on the telephone and answering inquiries or referring questions to other staff members.
- Assists in site screening procedures when needed (including related to COVID-19).
- Provides a safe and nurturing environment with an emphasis on respect, diversity, acceptance, and compassion.
- Assists ill or distraught consumers as necessary.
- Provides customer service in a polite and professional manner.
- Responds to complaints and seeks the appropriate resolution.
- Conducts regular safety checks and ongoing monitoring of consumers in the unit, removing any hazardous objects and records and reports findings as designated.
- Participates in crisis intervention training and provides an empathic "listening ear," as needed.
- Ensure all consumers receive and complete intake paperwork, and that documentation is uploaded in EMR system.
- Participates in the medical office emergency routine when required. Summons ambulance or EMS or assists other staff members as needed.
- Obtain vital signs (BP, HR, Wt and Ht) for consumers as directed and document findings appropriately.
- Assist in confirming/obtaining/updating consents and other required documentation for lab work, including lab requisition forms, H&P, transportation team and other internal and external entities.
- Assist with lab specimen collection (urine only)
- Maintains records of medication samples and OTC medications including administration of such.
- Maintains all first aid kits and ensures supplies are replenished as needed. Complete monthly audits of kits.
- Completes documentation as required by the clinic’s policies/procedures.
- Attends designated meetings as needed.
- Communicates daily with Crisis Services staff regarding clinical and administrative issues/activities.
- Light cleaning, including laundry and cleaning of bodily functions while consumers are in the stabilization unit (i.e. urine, feces, emesis etc.). Light daily straightening of milieu; replenishing of supplies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions: Staff needs to be prepared to work in an acute, locked-down crisis unit. The work environment is that of a crisis center and may subject staff to behavioral and medical events that could be physically hazardous. They must be actively involved with clients and on occasion may need to use approved CPI techniques or pursue eloping clients. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May require prolonged periods of standing, moving and bending. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times. Navy blue scrubs required per Employee Handbook.
Requirements
High School Diploma required. One to two years of relevant experience required. Relevant coursework and/or certifications preferred.
