JOB DESCRIPTION

The Student Support Coordinator will be responsible for assisting the Student Support Specialist in the overall planning, management, and execution of the Communities In Schools Integrated Student Support Services Program Model at a school-based site. Moreover, the Student Support Coordinator will assume the role of the Student Support Specialist during extended absences and implement programming based on the model with the goal of enhancing student and school achievement. We are looking for dedicated individuals who have a passion for working with both adults and students in an educational environment.

Student Support Coordinator Major Duties

  • Coordinate widely-accessible, school-wide services as directed by the Student Support Specialist to address identified needs or to enhance student assets.
  • Coordinate and provide targeted and sustained services at the school site for a caseload of students who are at the greatest risk of dropping out of school. This includes ongoing case management, direct support for students, goal setting, individual/group sessions, and opportunities for individual, intensive support services.
  • Build relationships with students, parents, school staff, and partners.
  • Assist the Student Support Specialist in obtaining parental consent for program support.
  • Collaborate with specialists to manage and implement Tier 1 initiatives that promote a positive school climate and support student well-being.
  • Assist in building and maintaining partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and community resources to enhance support for students and families.
  • Help identify and map available resources within the community to ensure that students and families have access to necessary support services.
  • Work closely with school staff, educators, and community partners to identify student needs and develop appropriate support strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of student support activities and community partnerships.
  • Assist in developing case managed student needs assessments and implement support plans that build on student assets and address barriers to success
  • Assist in conducting SEL assessments and groups for case managed students
  • Assume the responsibilities of the Student Support Specialist during their absence for two or more days, ensuring continuity of services and support for students.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in Social Work, Counseling/Psychology, Youth Development or Education, with a preference for Masters level Social Work or Counseling/Psychology/Education degree 
  • Demonstrated relevant work or volunteer experience in education, social services, mental health or a related field desired 
  • Knowledge of the CIS philosophy, process, history, and network a plus
