Overall Position Summary and Objectives

The Laboratory Support Specialist will provide essential support to research projects at the Center for Alzheimer's and Related Dementias (CARD). This role involves normalizing DNA and RNA concentrations for next-generation sequencing, genotyping, and other studies, as well as assisting in reporting results and addressing technical challenges.

Minimum Education Requirement

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology or related field

Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, and organize laboratory experiments, introduce new techniques, and conduct laboratory research.
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures, including measuring DNA/RNA concentrations, normalizing them to set standards, and preparing samples for sequencing and genotyping.
  • Operate laboratory machines and prepare specimens and equipment for use.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of sample storage, processing, and laboratory records.
  • Store and manage clinical research samples, ensuring accurate tracking.
  • Communicate research results and collaborate with lab team members.
  • Manage and maintain laboratory inventory supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Provide training and guidance to new laboratory members on equipment usage and protocols.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Engage in problem-solving to overcome technical issues.
  • Contribute insights and propose new strategies to enhance research quality.
  • Support the preparation of data for publication in professional journals.
